Florida Annual Events

January

Winter Haven - Florida Citrus Festival

Titusville, Florida - Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival

Tampa - The Gasparilla Pirate Festival
The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is an annual event that Tampa hosts every January. The festival is named after famed pirate José Gaspar, who operated out of the Tampa area back in the Golden Age of piracy. The festival begins when Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla sail into town on a 165’ pirate ship, making landfall near downtown Tampa and having a huge parade through the middle of town. It’s a crazy time, and certainly my favorite annual festival in Florida (I try to make it over to Tampa each January to catch it).

The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is sandwiched by two other Tampa festivals. A week before, there is a family oriented children’s parade, as well as a “Piratechnic Extravaganza” of fireworks launched over Tampa. This is a good festival to bring the whole family to, and is far less crowded than the main “invasion” and pirate parade a week later. A week or two after the parade, you will see the more adult-oriented Sant’Yago Knight Parade, which marches from Ybor City and as such, predictably can get a little blue....read more

Clewiston Sugar Festival
While there are always some things to do in Clewiston year round - bass fishing in Lake Okeechobee is always good – every April, the town really comes into its own with the Sugar Festival.

The Sugar Festival takes place over two weekends – the second and third Fridays and Saturdays in April. Like all county-style fairs, you will find standards like farming equipment expos and a beauty pageant (where they crown an annual Miss Sugar). One of my favorite events localized to the Clewiston festival is the Taste of Sugar Dessert Contest, where chefs of all types strive to make the most delectable sugary creations they can. Other highlights include an old fashioned cane sugar grinding exhibition (surprisingly interesting) and an antique car show. Admission to the festivities is free, so why not? It really is the highlight of Clewiston’s entertainment offerings...read more about Clewiston »

The Florida State Fair is also held in Tampa in February and is a lot of fun. There are more than 100 rides and games and don't forget the food. Cracker Country is a turn of the century rustic Florida village. There are always great bands for the headline entertainment as well as daily parades, a sea lion splash show, ballroom dancing, bull riding and barrel racing.

The Florida Renaissance Festival is held every February and features enchanted crafts villages, applaud hundreds of performers, knights a fighting and birds of prey. Of course there is also delicious food and continuous entertainment. This event is held annually at Deerfield Beach....read more »
