By Steve Killgore

Whether you are looking for a vacation that will take you to one of the most beautiful towns in America, or you have a love of beaches, great shopping and terrific prices, you'll find everything that you're looking for and more at Vero Beach! Vero Beach, Florida can be found in Indian River County, along the northernmost part of the Central Atlantic Coast, and it is well known to natives of the area for its relaxed charm and easy-going appeal. There is large variety of people that come here, from retirees to surfers who are looking to catch some of Florida's biggest waves, and if you are a looking for a place that has a little bit of everything, you are looking for Vero Beach.

When you want to spend some time in the sun and surf and at affordable rates, you'll find that Vero Beach has a great deal to offer when it comes to swimming, wind surfing, diving, and boating. The beach area is quite beautiful and the boating, whether you want to rent a boat or simply take a marine tour, is a wonderful way to while away the hours.

Vero Beach gives the area its names, and you'll find that this stretch of 75-yard wide sand is known for being one of the best swimming beaches in the United States. It is worth noting that there is an artificial reef about sixty feet out, and that because of its narrowness, it might not be a choice for children. You'll find that in general, the beachfront is quiet and not very crowded, and if you get hungry, you'll be able to find an excellent restaurant with outdoor seating, giving you a perfect view of the beach.

When you are looking to spend time outside, take a look at the McKee Botanical Garden, which is about eight years old and will even provide free tours on Saturdays. If you go to the McKee Botanical Garden, make sure that you take a look at the Bamboo Pavilion, which was the first permitted, structurally sound bamboo structure in the United States. You'll find this structure quite impressive, as it uses about 350 stems of bamboo that stretch more than 20 feet into the air, and then thatched with more than 9000 palm fronds.

On a similar front, you'll see that this is an excellent area for people who are life-long bird watchers or who just have a love of the beautiful birds that live in this part of the country. In Vero Beach, on the Indian River Lagoon, you'll see that Pelican Island, America's first wildlife refuges is a home to spoonbills, ibises, herons, and pelicans. This is a favorite spot for birders both local and foreign, and you can see quite birds for the life list in this area.

If you are looking for a laid-back vacation that really lets you rest and take it all in at your own pace, it is easy to see that Vero Beach is for you. Some people make Vero Beach their decompression point after the more lively nightlife of Orlando or Miami, while others spend their whole vacations soaking in the calm; take a look and see what speed is for you.
